Kansas City is famed for its rich jazz heritage and many of the area's most popular festivals incorporate music and concerts, often being staged outside during the busy summer holiday months.

Annual Kansas City Festivals


  • January: Martin Luther King Celebration, lasting around a week and remembering the country's civil rights history
  • February: Flower, Lawn and Garden Show, a popular horticultural festival which takes place at the city's American Royal Complex
  • February: National Wildlife Art Show, with exhibitions of many notable art works
  • March: St. Patrick's Parade, held each year of March 17th, being based around the downtown area of the city, attracting around 500,000 people each year
  • June: Juneteenth in June, lasting around five days and featuring a host of live music and street entertainment


  • July: Blues and Jazz Festival, taking place every year during the month of July, attracting many prominent jazz musicians and groups
  • July: Kansas City Indian Club Pow Wow, celebrating the rich culture and heritage of the region's Indian tribes
  • August: 18th and Vine Heritage Festival, with a number of live jazz events in Kansas City's 18th and Vine district
  • August: Elvis Parade, a particularly fun event celebrating the music of rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley
  • September: Plaza Art Fair, held during the middle of the month each year in the Plaza Art Fair district of Kansas City, dating back more than 75 years
